“I think that prog rock is the science fiction of music. Science fiction speculates on what the future might be and look like and how we'll get there, and yet there's always a central theme of humanity, or there should be. Progressive rock has the same concept of exploration into the parts of the music world that hasn't been explored.” - William Shatner aka Captain James T. Kirk from the starship USS Enterprise
Mazelake Ward
Modern Progressive Rock
Made in Berlin, Germany
The progressive rock band Mazelake Ward was formed in 2014 on a mysterious island in Berlin. The band's name was inspired by the sometimes absurd and inexplicable paths of human existence. Since early 2022, the band has been performing in its current line-up, creating curious and unpredictable synergies with unusual musical influences.
Elements borrowed from various prog-rock greats such as Porcupine Tree, Riverside, Genesis, Muse, Pink Floyd, Haken and Marillion ultimately lend the band's sound a distinctive character all of its own. Flowing bass lines, melodic guitar solos and intricate synth accompaniment – at times radical and forceful, at others tender and melancholic – interplay with complex rhythmus and poetic wordplay.
Mazelake Ward are:
Tom Putensen (Keys) | Mats Landgren (Bass) | Christian Neuert (Vocals) | Matthias Rhein (Guitar) | John Schmiedel (Drums)
